Working out had always been a big part of my life. As a young man my desire to be a firefighter pushed me to take no chances passing the grueling physical offered by the FDNY. Not interested in looking like a bodybuilder, I was after the functional strength and endurance that came with a lean, hard body. My dedication provided me with enough day-in, day-out motivation to reach my goals, laying the foundation for my current approach.

Back To Basics
Early on in my career, my unit responded to a call for a fire on the top floor of a 23-story hirise apartment house. While huffing and puffing my way up the blacked-out stairwell, I realized I didn't have the luxury of lugging around any excess body weight. There was only one way I�d make it safely through the next 20-years -fit and lean. (skip intro - go to custom workout)

But much had changed. No longer did I have a specific test date, or that one big event to prepare for. Being a firefighter, versus training to become a firefighter, meant staying in shape for years to come � a lifetime commitment. At the same time, the responsibilities of adulthood were demanding a greater percentage of my day, leaving far less time for fitness or exercise.

Firefighters have a way of attacking a problem head on, breaking down complex situations to their most basic elements. Twenty years ago, in the back room of that Brooklyn firehouse, I did just that. Without a lot of time and even less money, lifesaving workout programs were devised and put to the real-life test - and they passed with flying colors.

Mass Appeal
From there the program evolved. Customized to meet each participant�s goals, it was repeatedly tweaked and improved. The idea was to work with a individual, much like a personal trainer, but with the intention of educating rather than just leading blindly. This produced both remarkable and long-lasting results. People were losing weight while getting stronger and healthier.

Once the system is understood, and the basic principles mastered, it can be infinitely adjusted, and without the help of a trainer.
